Probate refers to the administration of an individual’s personal estate, after they become deceased. It is given by authority of the Court to a particular person or group of people, and allows them to distribute all money, property and possessions left by the deceased according to their will and existing commitments.
Proof of probate is usually issued as a document called a Grant of Representation. Almost everybody will need Probate granted in the event of their death, as it is issued whenever the value of the remaining estate is over £5,000.
